HISTORY

Take a look back how this Foundation evolved through the years. From its founding principles to present-day accomplishments, our history reflects a commitment to excellence and continuous growth

KFF Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides care, education, and opportunities to underprivileged and abandoned youth. Our goal is to help young people build a better future through learning and support.

The Foundation began in 1983 when Dr. Kenneth Kennerhoff, a Swedish physician, visited the Philippines for the first time. During his visit, he saw a great waste of intellectual potential affected by pressing factors. Firstly, many young people lacked access to college education due to financial incapability. The second factor stemmed from a cultural aspect. He observed that in impoverished communities, there is no culture of motivation to pursue education among families. Notably, Dr. Kennerhoff has been helping young people in Sweden since 1963. His first visit paved the way for the Foundation to be established, providing college education and cultural motivation through weekly enriching seminars.

Throughout its early years, the Foundation sponsored to as many young people as it could. As the years progressed, an increasing number of aspiring college students have joined and it became too big for the founder to support the Foundation alone through his personal income in Sweden. To further support the growing needs of the Foundation, a lending company named KFF Corporation was established.

For the succeeding years, KFF Corporation provided monthly donations to support the Foundation until the year 2017. Despite the closure of the company and the cessation of donations during that time, the Foundation continues to operate until today through its ancillary income. This monthly income is just enough to support 13 to 14 scholars. However, there are still many aspiring young people with great intellectual potential who never get a chance to pursue their college studies.

To add more opportunities, the KFF Family was created. This group is made up of scholars and alumni who have committed to treat each other like a real family. Most of them were orphans or have been abandoned by their parents and guardians. Being a KFF Family Member requires loyalty, kindness, and the willingness to give back. After finishing college studies, KFF Family members unite to help the next group of scholars and take care of the Foundation that once nurtured them.

Today, the Foundation continues to offer scholarships to talented and determined students who still have families but lacks the financial capacity to pursue college. Scholars also help in the Foundation’s activities to ensure that they are well-guided and cared for. In fact, some graduates become part of the Foundation’s core team.

From a simple act of kindness and a dream to help, the KFF Foundation Inc. has grown into a compassionate and strong community built on trust, education, and a sense of family.
