My name is Earl Niño Pelostratos. I was born on January 21, 2007, in the small town of
Camotes, Cebu. I am the second of five children. My parents are both hardworking. My father,
Dennis Pelostratos, works as a farmer, while my mother helps my father or stays at home to take
care of us.
\My hometown Pilar is the most isolated municipality in Cebu. I grew up on an island where food
is not really a problem if you just work hard for it. My father plants corn and sometimes goes
fishing so that we can have viand with the corn rice. But the problem is earning money on the
island. It lacks resources, and most people there don’t value education. I am very lucky to have
my parents teach us the importance of education. They always say if we want to go somewhere
and leave our island, live a life where we don’t mind spending money to buy things and buy food
not just fish and vegetables, then we should finish college and not be like them.

My parents sadly did not finish college, that’s why they want me and my siblings to finish our studies so that we will not end up like them. Throughout my elementary years, I’ve been a consistent first honor student. I studied at Cawit Elementary School and later completed high school in Lanao National High School as a with honor student. Currently, I am a first-year student at Cebu Normal University taking Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science. Teaching was not really my first choice, but I changed
my mind because I realized being a teacher is a noble profession and I want to come back to my province and teach there.
To this day, I am a proud scholar of KFF Foundation. It has lightened the financial challenges and introduced me to very kind and nice people. KFF Foundation is not just a sponsor, it is like a second family to me hopefully in the future, I will become a teacher in my province and I want to give back to my parents who worked very hard to support my studies and also to KFF Foundation which has helped me not just financially but also emotionally.
