EMMALYN’S AUTOBIOGRAPHY

My name is Emma Lyn L. Bolo, born on December 6, 2004 in Lapu-Lapu City. Later, my family moved to Carcar City, my father’s hometown, where most of my childhood memories were made. I grew up with my older sister, and together we shared both the challenges and joys of student life. At present, I still live in Lagang, Ocana, Carcar City, but I also rent a place in Parian Cebu City to be closer to Cebu Technological University Main Campus. There, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, a course that constantly challenges me but also inspires me to work hard for my future.

As a child, I was known as the happy-go-lucky and adventurous kid who always wore a smile but often grew shy around new people. One of the biggest influences in my life has always been my older sister. She has always been a top achiever, and while I was often compared to her, I never felt resentment. Instead, I admired her deeply because she has been one of my greatest supporters, always willing to help me in any way she could. We may not always openly express our love for each other or be very close, but deep down, I am proud to be her sister and I love her very much. With only the two of us, we learned to depend on each other in different ways, and that bond continues to shape who I am.

Before becoming a scholar, I often struggled with self-doubt and shyness. I had a hard time expressing myself, especially in front of a crowd, and I easily questioned my own abilities. Since my sister and I entered college just one year apart, I became more aware of my family’s financial responsibilities and wanted to help ease their burden by seeking scholarship opportunities. After failing to qualify for another scholarship in the past, I was not very hopeful this time, and while waiting for the results, I began to lose confidence in myself. Still, I chose to try, believing that even small chances were worth taking and that the experience itself could teach me something valuable.

Becoming part of this scholarship program has truly changed me for the better. It gave me a safe space where I did not have to pretend or hide parts of myself, and it taught me to value even the smallest of achievements. Through the program, I learned how to carry myself with more confidence in front of others, and I also gained the courage to share my thoughts without fear of judgment. One of the greatest blessings I received was meeting new people who eventually became my friends and even felt like family to me. This scholarship did not only ease the financial responsibilities of my family but also opened doors for me to grow, discover my strengths, and connect with others who have dreams and aspirations similar to mine.

Looking back, I realize how much I have grown from the shy and doubtful girl I once was. The scholarship has played a huge role in shaping my confidence and in reminding me that every effort, no matter how small, is worth celebrating. It also made me believe that growth happens not just through achievements, but through struggles, perseverance, and the people we meet along the way. With the lessons I continue to learn and the support I receive, I am determined to make the most of my journey in college. More importantly, I hope to use what I gain from these experiences to build a future where I can help others the same way I have been helped.
