Humor melts ice.
Jeffrey Gitomer
Last March 08, 2025, the teachers led an engaging and insightful discussion on Part 1: 1.3, 1.4, and Part 2: 2.1 of the book This session focused on the power of building meaningful connections with customers. It reminded us that success in sales isnโt just about knowing the right techniques or following a script. More often, itโs about creating genuine bonds, showing empathy, and making people feel comfortable. When we take the time to understand and connect with those we serve, we open the door to conversations that are natural and authentic, not forced or awkward
One of the key ideas we explored was Gitomerโs belief that building a โfriendshipโ connection with customers can lead to stronger, longer-lasting sales relationships. By discovering what makes your customer smile, what lightens their mood, or what helps them feel more at ease, you can guide conversations in a way that feels effortless. This is where humor becomes such a powerful tool. When used thoughtfully, humor can break the tension, melt away nervousness, and create an environment where people feel safe to open up. A simple joke or a kind, lighthearted comment can turn a formal sales meeting into a friendly exchange where trust begins to grow.

As Gitomer says, โHumor melts ice.โ We discussed how even just a moment of shared laughter can shift the mood of a conversation. It helps break down barriers and allows meaningful dialogue to happen. But we also reflected on the importance of using humor with care. Itโs not about trying too hard to be funny or making jokes at the wrong time. Instead, itโs about knowing when a little lightness can ease the conversation and when itโs better to simply listen. Done right, humor can help us connect, build trust, and create positive experiences that customers will remember.
A heartfelt thank you to all our teachers and participants who brought energy and warmth to the discussion. Your ideas, stories, and openness made the session even more vibrant and meaningful.
